Culture Coach Model

Culture Coach Model copyright New Futures 2005

Present reality appraisal: Gauging "what's real" now, in terms of the true drivers of the current culture. Includes identifying underlying paradigms/mindsets and perceptions that influence thinking and action in the organisation. Methods include focus groups, surveys, interviews and observation.

Preferred cultural characteristics: Identifying the qualities of the culture, including desired behaviours necessary to successfully take the organisation forward. Methods include visioning workshops and action learning processes.

Assessing the implications of cultural change: Culture change offers potentially huge benefits to the business yet is complex and difficult to bring about. It's critical that the implications of, and issues with, a major culture improvement initiative are carefully thought through. The Implications Wheel® is a powerful tool enabling risks and opportunities with change to be identified as a basis for planning.

Building a supportive infrastructure: Includes identifying performance measures that will encourage the desired culture as well as review of other systems and processes to foster alignment. Also includes ensuring "space" in which people are able to work through the issues of cultural change.

Iterative planning, action and review: Linear planning methods don't work with cultural change; a "learning as you go" approach is essential. New Futures assists clients to plan action, test changes, reflect on experience, and incorporate findings in further action, towards achieving the preferred culture.

One critical ingredient for successful culture change is modelling by individual senior executives and executive teams. New Futures director Don Dunoon also works with senior teams to enable them to tap more of their potential, to improve their performance and to lead culture change. More>>
