Issues to Action™ Method
Pre-Workshop
- Arranging to get the key people together - usually for a one-day workshop, though other formats are possible, e.g. two half days
- Clarifying the topic for review; identifying any relevant background factual material, assumptions and any "givens"
- Possibly pre-workshop interviews or a mini-survey, to help tease-out the issues.
The Workshop Session
- Introduction and overview
- Drawing out participant views about the issues and opportunities. We use a software program to "map" the specific issues and points for possible leverage
- The aim is to depersonalize the issues and to make the thinking behind them more transparent. The result is almost invariably a more deeply shared understanding of the dimensions of the issues and the possible areas for moving forward
- From the map generated above, drawing conclusions about priority issues and strategies for dealing with them
- Detailed action planning - what is to be achieved, how is this to be done etc
- Consideration of mechanisms to support implementation, e.g. the establishment of working groups or other arrangements; dealing with any other issues arising
- Review and close.
Workshop Results
With the Issues to Action™ methodology, you can expect to achieve:
- A shared understanding among participants of the specific issues and opportunities involved and their relative importance
- An agreed action plan for dealing with identified high priority issues
- An agreed structure and process for implementing and monitoring the identified actions following the workshop.
